HDTV vs HDMonitor
« on: 08 June 2007, 05:39:13 PM »
First of all multo bene to C & V for the excellent reviews......and now my $64000 question.

I am planning to purchase a 42 inch full HD screen later this year to view SD & HD TV + archived HD & SD home video files + computer games.

Likely connected to a freesat type satellite feed + freeview pvr + mac mini + existing surround sound amp & speakers. Migrating to new BBC satellite hardware next year.(No sky subs for me thank you)

I think I could use an HDTV or just an HD monitor.

The Panasonic monitors seem to boast a greater range of video signal compatabilty: (525, (480)/60i, 60p (575).50i, 50p;1125 (1080)/60i, 50i, 24p, 24sF, 25p, 30p ? SMPTE274M, 1250 (1080)/50I) - though I'm not sure exactly what that all means.

Leaving the tuner & speakers out doesn't seem to make monitors any cheaper so why would anyone chose a monitor over a TV?

Do monitors offer any advantages in video processing & picture quality over similarly priced HDTV's?

Thanks for any advice.

Roger.
