1080i v 1080p
« on: 19 June 2007, 05:04:29 PM »
On a Full HD (1920 x 1080) tv screen, is there a difference in picture quality to be seen between a 1080i and a 1080p signal, given that they both have the same resolution? Is the only difference how well the screen deinterlaces, and if so what sort of "bad" things might be seen with a tv that does it adequately to poorly?

Hello,
The only real problem you may see is that you may be able to spot motion blur on the 1080i whereas the 1080p displays the complete picture in 1 scan rather than 2.  It's a bit like comparing 50hz to 100hz.

All the best,
Davy

Hi SirTiger

The "bad" things you may see are essentially deinterlacing artifacts, such as line twitter, jaggies, moire, etc.

Warmest regards
Vincent
