Missing digital out (sound) on tv's
« on: 10 July 2007, 10:41:36 PM »
Hi.

I'm wondering why some (i.e. Sony KDL-40W2000) tv's doesn't have a digital output for sound ?
I want to connect the tv to a surround-receiver. The tv has a DVB-T tuner which receives digital sound. And most modern films are broadcast with surround sound, but I can't transfer the sound digitally to the receiver because the tv has no digital out.

Hi jp69

Manufacturers generally make strategic decision on television design based on cost-benefit ratio... it's possible that the digital audio output was omitted on certain models because the manufacturers felt that it wouldn't be missed (which is clearly not the case with yourself here).

Warmest regards
Vincent

Maybe Sony are reacting to the masses. I notice that the SONY KDL-40D3000U has an optical out  ;)
