@trout
my 46inch is completely silent, with sound on mute I stuck my ear at the back and I can't hear anything, no humming, no buzzing.
played a little with backlightsettings because I have read on different sites that this can make a difference. Completely silent...
Go for it, I'm sure you won't regret it. This is a fantastic television and 46 inch works wonders for me coming from a 32inch CRT.
Only one downside: all visitors at my home become instandly jealous  ;D

Fab, that's exactly what I hoped. Just about the only downside of the Sammy is its relatively artificial looking rendition of skin tones, IMHO. Sharp 46in handled this better but silent operation is of more importance in my book. Off to Currys tomorrow  :)

Hi guys, the review of the set was great,i have great trust in samsung,i own a d600 cell phone and i work (3d animation) with a sm215 monitor (samsung of course)i am very pleased with them.Last Saturday i got my M86 with much anticipation. It was better than i expected!!! I used PS3 with hdmi 1.3 version and it looks fantastic,so was the pc over dvi with resolution up to 1080p.1:1 pixel mapping of course. The Set is great and i suggest it to anyone.I want to talk about "Movie Plus".THIS IS A FANTASTIC FEATURE!!! The reviewer said that it is best off,i totally disagree. When watching DVDs turn it on and the tv behaves like an 100hz set,it is fantastic, you will notice right away the difference in motion, sometimes it screws up and blurring appears, but at most times it works fantastic! The glaring of the panel is very subtle and only noticeable when light hits directly the set.I paid 2.179 euro and i am very happy with the tv.

Don't know about the skintones on a Sharp but with this Samsung using the settings provided here, for wich I'm very greatfull (donation made), I have abosutely no complaints what so ever. I like this one all the way. It's hanging against my wall (with Vogel's bracket) for a week now and the picture quality is still amazing me...

Just get my new M87 from Robert Whyte and Alphason APX 50 and it looks amazing.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to connect the Audio connectors from the XBOX 360 VGA HD cable, obviously I can tell where the D-Sub connect goes but what about the two audio cables?

Regards.

This is a problem (same with the R87, my friend got one and had to use the component cable) you can't input analogue audio along with the D-SUB.... only optical. You'll need an optical cable for your 360.

Thanks for the review, I'm planning on getting this tv for my xbox 360.

which leads to the question:
how good is the picture when using the component cables and configure the xbox to 720p output (most games are still optimized for this resolution, I think)? does this work well or is there some cropping happening? or is it better to use the 1080i option (still over component)?

please let me know your thoughts.
thanks

Well you can use the 1080p option over component. The 360 will output games at 1080p.... What the game "runs at" is separate to what output setting you choose, you don't have to worry about that. Since this is a 1080p TV, set the console to 1080p and it will be fine.
If you are worried about the quality of the scaling the 360 has a very good scaler chip..... I've just tried setting it to 720p, so the TV can scale the picture, and it's not as good as the 1080p setting. So it's best to let the console do it itself.
The picture quality over component, in general, is good. There is a little overscan but nothing that matters unless you are playing HD DVD's (which are output at 1080i).

So with regards to the VGA input from a Xbox 360, where does the left and right RCA inputs connect to on the 40" M87. I can see a audio connector next to the VGA Dsub socket. Do I need a RCA into 3.5mm connector to get the sound to output to the TV?

Regards.

It would appear so, see http://forums.hdtvtest.co.uk/index.php?topic=19.msg167#msg167

le40m87 has come to 849.95 on hiwayhifi(although not in stock)
sounds a real bargain.
If only I could know how the motion handling compares to the 37px70 as the price difference is marginal.

I received this tv on Saturday, and was very impressed connecting it to my PS3. HD is awesome, and Casino Royal

However I cannot get the picture in picture to function on any source. When press button no remote says not available, and PIP is greyed out within the setup menu. Anyone have any ideas?

The PX70 has better motion portrayal than the M86. If football is your life, I'd go with the plasma with the full knowledge of its pros and cons.

I think the processing is 10 bit, but don't quote me on this. With HDMI 1.3, theoretically it can do wider gamut colours in 10 bit. Unfortunately, no one can check this because there isnt any material encoded this way.

There are PIP combos but some conditions must be satisfied. I can't remember the details but I think I got the PIP working in HDMI linking to a DTV channel. Check the manual.
