Samsung LCD question
« on: 14 August 2007, 09:49:47 PM »
I am thinking of buying the Samsung LE40M87 and not being very technical have a couple of questions.

Firstly the TV supports 1080p but as I understand my Sky + box (not HD) is transmitted at a lower level, does the LE40M87 autodetect the best setting or do I have to change the setting myself (if this is possible) as I have read that in some cases 720p is better than 1080i ?

Is this the same for my DVD player (again not a hd dvd player) ?

Finally can I use a HDMI cable to connect my standard sky + to the TV or do I need to use the scart ?

Many thanks

Hi stelam

The process of fitting a lower resolution signal (e.g. Sky+ & DVD) to a high resolution panel is called scaling. The scaling quality on any television is generally fixed, but you can still adjust other settings like sharpness to prevent excessive ringing/ edge enhancement from spoiling the picture.

The quality of HDMI transmission is accepted to be higher than Scart: the former's digital; the latter's analogue.

Warmest regards
