The exact same thing happened to me last Sunday.... they are still at it..... it was Dixon's but I think the shops/delivery dudes are the same.... I bet there is some massive blag going on and they are selling the 1080 version elsewhere and making money.....  I would not of noticed but I looked round the back to get the model number in order to look up how to calibrate it and realised that I had been given the wrong set.... it was even in the right box and the sticker on the side had the right details.... glad I noticed!

I have phone Dixon's and told them they delivered the wrong set.... at the moment they say they have none in stock so I guess I will have to wait and use the R88..... bit rubbish really!

seems like Dixons are doing this on a regular basis; this exact same thing happened to me. In all fairness they did a swap within a few weeks so alls well. But it is kinda worrying, there must be people out there that have paid for a particular model and been fobbed off with a lower spec. Gotta say I was a bit shocked to read the above post as I just assumed mine was a one off. Come on Dixons, "get your act together"!

Samsung LE40M86BD remote control problem
« Reply #197 on: 26 March 2008, 02:33:11 PM »
Just bought the LE40M86. First impression: superb quality. First problems: connecting to JVC Home Theatre, Samsung STB and Medion DVD recorder was not very easy. Now everything works and is connected, but some functions on the Samsung remote control don't work. To be more specific: i cannot use the 5 buttons on the top (TV, DVD, STB, CABLE and VCR) to switch between these options. I followed the instructions in the manual, using the right codes and after that the lights blink thrice, as promised, but then nothing happens when i push one of the buttons. I apparently missed something, but what? Can anyone help?

Same happened to me, I've had an awful customer experience with Dixons and believe this "mistake" is happening too often to be coincidence. I think I'm finally getting the wrong TV (R88) taken away and a refund tomorrow but that has taken weeks to get that far and having to call almost every day and be lied to on each occasion i.e. "you'll receive a call in 2 days" - 2 days later, "another 2 days" etc for over 2 weeks since ordering. They have no M86s in stock and despite it still being on their website they are not getting anymore in stock so an exchange was out of the question despite them letting me request an exchange and then leaving it almost a week to tell me they have none in stock and haven't for a while and will probably never again. They told me the new line of Samsungs have superceded the M series in which case I argued that without the set I ordered in stock, they should give me the one that has replaced it. They were more than happy to do this as long as I paid the £300 difference. I think somewhere there, with that being said I would be in my rights to receive the replacement set under the Sale of Goods act but knew I would get nowhere fast with that arguement without legal help.
I think they hope you'll say you'll keep the set and it has been tempting just sat there to just use it and admit defeat but I don't want to give them a reason to not give me a refund. Do NOT buy from this retailer and I think HDTVtest should remove the link on their websites to Dixons with the discount code because I reckon this is happening more often than we realise and either people aren't noticing or think it doesn't matter when in fact its £200 difference.
I work in retail myself only for a large UK mobile phone company but the situation with Dixons is similar to what has happened with our company. Currys and Dixons are one and the same only with Dixons you can't return an item to store and have to deal with call centres, letters and emails. They have the upper hand because you can't physically talk to someone and return the item and it is up to them when they call you for a refund/exchange (evidentially). The customer is enticed by cheaper online prices then missold an item or otherwise conned and then stuck because all the Dixons stores are all now conveiniently Currys, a suposedly different company altogether. In our case, customers used to be able to return web sold items from this other company within the umbrella of the retailer's group but have now stopped it to leave customers in a similar situation to Dixons customers. This is not to say I'm a pot calling the kettle black, I do not condone this shoddy and criminal salesmanship and when faced with a customer from the other company, I take it upon myself to sort it out within store as it should be.

Basically I was illegally missold an item under the 1979 Sale of Goods act and had the right to sue Dixons (trading standard's words). The issue is beginning to be resolved but has taken far too long. I am a student and have to work hard at a part time job to afford this TV set and so timed it so I would be able to use it within the Easter break to make the most of it. Now I am without a television (having removed the bracket for my old set) and have been for 2 weeks. I had bought VGA cables for my 360 and component cables for my Wii ready for the day the TV was delivered with a new shelf up ready for it to be placed and used. I got up at 7am (within their 5 hour delivery slot) and signed for the TV having read the receipt of the delivery and checked the label on the side which says LE40M86BD and happily let the delivery guy leave. It was only when I went to attach my cables to the back of the set I read R88 and knew instantly what had happened. I have pictorial evidence of the scam if anyone wants to see and just advise buying from a physical store (I am going to Euronics when this is resolved) or a trusted online retailer with reviews of the TV below i.e. play.com
