I'm really close to ordering one of these but, as an avid gamer, the review comments about lag have given me some doubts. I will be using an Xbox 360 via a VGA connection - will this improve things? As you mentioned that in the review for the PS3 when you said it doesn't have a VGA output. Many thanks.  :)

One thing i'd very much like to know ,since i have a firm interest in this TV, is what resolutions are supported for different connection methods.

Why i ask this ? well simple actually since my first choice was a Panasonic but i found out that no other connection method other than HDMI supported 1080p mode.

The problem i have is that i have an older xbox 360 and thus no HDMI and i'd need to use either Component or VGA (the latter preferred)

Thank you in advance.

Well it will definitely do 1080p via VGA. I've done it using my old PC and the image quality is excellent - I would defy anyone to tell the difference from HDMI.

Download the manual to get a list of all modes supported.

Thanks, that was definately what i wanted to hear  ;)

I had a look through the user manual downloaded from the samsung site but i couldnt find a resolution / connection list or i'm just too much of a tool to know precisely what im looking for. (safe option being number 2 i guess  ::))

Now i just need to get someone to lift my old telly down 3 stories (old JVC 32" with the DIST system a mere 120 +/- kg while having a bad back)

Based on this review, I'm very close to buying a LE 40B653 for €799. I would just like to be 100% sure it's the same model though.

A product search on samsung.com/uk/ finds everything for the 650, but only firmware and manuals for 653.
I guess that's an indication that it's in fact the same..

What do you guys think?

I bought the LE40B650 about two weeks ago as the picture looked great in the store. The picture definition looks great at home too but ..... TV shows and movies look like "hyper real amature videos" rather than films and shows. It's driving my wife and I crazy (she's close to demanding that I return the TV). We had a Sony KDL40W4000 previously and did not have this issue at all. So, am I missing some setting on this TV or is this supposed to make the movies look more "real"? If it is the latter, I don't want it because the movies look too real, as in it is no longer a movie but people on a movie set which is dead boring.

It sounds like you are a fan of 'filmic motion'. Try turning off the Motion Plus judder reduction, or turn off Motion Plus altogether.

I have been mostly using the set as just a video monitor via HDMI. However I recently wanted to use the internal tuner, but there is a problem using an external amplifier and speakers. The analogue audio outputs (phono and headphone) are not co-timed with the video. Of the two the headphone output is better, but both are considerably in advance of the pictures. This makes these outputs totally useless. The only fix I have found is to use the S/PDIF output into my video scaler and use the scaler as an audio delay.  ::)

Hello,

Try setting 100hz motion plus to custom and then blur reduction to 8 and judder reduction to 4 to start with. I found this a good compromise between fluid animation and filmic look. The judder reduction setting controls the fluidity of movement so if you like totally movie-like feeling then set this to 0.

As i see the normal picture settings are not usable for media play.
There is a different, simpler settings table for it.

Which are your preferred settings for that?

I found 'natural' to be best of the default profiles

Re: Samsung LE40B650 Review - backlight bleeding

Having backlight bleeding problem on LE37B650 and LE40B650

Hello,

three days ago I bought a new lcd tv LE37B650 , but it had heavy backlight bleeding problem.  I gave it back and replaced it with LE40B650 model, it has less bleeding then previous one but it is still bothersome. bleedings are at the corners of the screen and towards to center.

I tried to calibrate, but it did not work yet. still struggling.. Is there anybody experienced this problem so far ?

Regards,
Omer.

Hi,

I just bought a B550 and was wondering if the settings for the B650 would be similar and a good start for my LCD?

Many thanks, Martin.

Hello,

i just bought the B650 and i want to ask if the settings from vincent (thanks by the way!) are also the "best" or good settings for playing playstation 3 because my blurays and the hd stuff will be played through this.

Thank you.

Just wondering - does this model - or any of the Samsungs - come with a signal strength indicator for Freeview.
