I'm sorry you are having this problem with the Sharp. Our site primarily examines picture quality, and all other factors related to it. We can't do compatibility testing on consoles or graphics card, although it is surprising there is so issues around this. We try to pick up problems as far as we can.

Maybe we should demand manufacturers to test their TVs out before selling a half baked product.

Hi got this set a few weeks ago and intially liked it. However the bands and buzzing are getting too much.

Banding is only visible on certain types of shots but the buzz is clearly audible and loud if one or any combination of the following conditions occur

a) back light < 8 (-8 to 8 is the range)
b) opc function is used at all
c) the screen darkens, really annoying in movies with dark scenes

The serial number began 705 but I plan on returning the set, does anyone know if the LC46XD1EA is available yet or if there is a batch at which these bugs stopped appearing ? ideally if I could keep a working set of this model I'd be more than happy. Have to change for something else if I can't

All the best,
Mully

Hello,

I've just bought the 46XD1E and I'm, for now, quite happy with it, especially because the SD pictures are very good, far better than I was expecting (I'm used to pioneer plasma's "friendlyness" with bad sources).

For now I'm still seeking for the best settings and I must say it's quite challenging compared to my previous sets. Strangely, what I find as beeing the best picture (HD satellite in 1080i) is "Dynamic"... the white seems sometimes too "brilliant", but when I try the other factory settings, the picture appears "milky". Can someone give me some hints about how to configure it and get the most natural colors?

Is there a possibility to get the settings the testing team had to put to achieve the testing? I'm thinking about how you managed to get the "D65" you talk about in the review (by the way, it is said in the test that the closest to D65 is with the color setting on low...with this warm setting, the white seem not very white...rather pink... :o ).

I entered the service menu and saw that there's a lot of possibilities to change high and low RGB settings, like in the standard menu on my former plasma, but I wasn't sure what I was doing so I rather get some advices first...

Thanks in advance

PS : excuse my english I'm French

Is anyone able to answer to the frenchmans post? I experience the very same things.
Would be nice to know what settings you used during your test.

Personally I use these atm:

OPC: on. It make the picture smoother I think, but unfortunately also a bit too dark.
Backlight: 0 (OPC controls it)
Contrast: 32
Light: -5
Color: 5
Tint: 12
Sharp: -4
Temp: Mid-low (I also find low temp to make the picture too red, which you describe to be one of the major problems with this TV)
Black: off
truD: on

I'm very happy with this screen though, and would recomend it to anyone.
