How to enable freeview on a KDL40W3000?
« on: 09 April 2010, 02:45:39 PM »
Hi all,

I've got a KDL40W3000 I've been using with SKY+HD for a year or so, with no problems.  I find myself not watching many of Sky's channels, however, so I am considering moving to Freeview, especially when as it's showing Freeview HD in my area.  I'm not having any luck setting it up, however, and think I'm doing something wrong.

I've connected the aerial cable, and have some analogue channels (not great picture quality, admittedly) through automatic search for analogue channels.  It's connected to an aerial on the roof I believe - the house is only 2 years old or so.

When I tell it to do an automatic search for digital channels, (and again, via the aerial, not through cable) it finishes the scan and tells me it couldn't find anything.  I've tried a manual scan but i don't really know what I'm doing. :)

Am I going down the right route - is it possible that in my area (North London, Zone 3) I should not be capable of getting a signal?  Are there any tests I can run to get information about the strength/quality of my aerial signal?  Any help is welcome, I'm hoping I can get off of Sky and save some money!

Thanks in advance.

You could have a faulty aerial, or a faulty connection from the aerial to the outlet in your house. May try a portable aerial, a signal booster, or even a cheap Freeview external box?

Warmest regards
