Hi,
no native speaker here, please forgive my rough English.
I have a problem on getting to the point so the short version is:
Short version:
Need a LCD 42" for gaming purposes:
Priority A:
next to none input-lag clear display of text/subtitles in HD and SD on DVD, Blu-Ray
Priority B:
(slightly) above average sound quality, good DVD, Blu-Ray
functionality price arround 1000 GBP
Priority Z:
TV / Digital TV related stuff and else useless apps
What TV should I buy?
Long version:
Having a father who cannot purchase a simple alarm-clock without reading a gazillion of tests - I am used to search for information first before purchase...fast forward to the 21st century where internet tests, discussions, reviews and the like are the new rage....and can lead to serious confusion trough input-overkill.
What are my TV-related habits:
TV watching: 0% (serously in 3 years living alone I didn't watch a TV show. Internet and newspapers are just fine for news.
Console gaming: 80% (I have a Playstation 2 and Playstation 3, no plans on buying any other consoles soon) - 8 hrs a week
DVD watching: 20% (slowly replacing it with Blu-rays but at the moment I have many DVDs but few Blu-Rays) 1-2 movies a week
What I want:
42" (40" would be ok but only if no good 42" is available 46" only if price is somewhat affordable)
LCD (no Plasma)
Err....how to describe it in English? the TV-foot(stand?) should be oval- or rectangle-shaped, no tri/quad-pods due to placement reasons
Colour: black (grey would also be ok)
Price: not much more than 1000 GBP
Sound: at least above average...I plan on buing a good stero in about a year until that the internal speakers should do
What I do not care for:
Any Extras related to TV
OK until now there is a wide array of possible purchases, now to the single most important factor:
input lag and display quality of small text on screen
I have to sit pretty far away from my TV so gaming and watching movies with subtitles (nearly every movie I watch are not in my native tongue so I use subtitles pretty much all the time)
So a good reading quality of in-game-text and subtitles in movies are important but the budget and space do not allow a 55"-monster.
Text display on some displays on SD (Playstation 2) and even some texts on HD are tough to read.
But what enfuriates me is the cloud of miss-information/lack of information on input lag in tests and suggestions.
I want a very low input lag. Information about this is sparse. But nevertheless this is my top priority.
Thank you for staying with me despite this long wall of grammatical failur...*ahem*...text.
Any help would be gladly apreciated.
