Personally i loved the review (if only i could find out how to get to the review of th LXD700 ???). i like it when independent reviewers ive you the raw opinions, no brush-ups.

I was a bit dissapointed that LXD70 lacked in a few places. i thought it would do well because i read an article (well part of it) on the Which magazine website where they apparently thought that the LXD600 was the best LCD ever out there.

Still i suppose that different people will have different opinions on the same thing. So it's very much a matter of personal preference.

I still havent purchased an LCD yet since i am a bit undecided because the technology is still new and there are a lot of developments taking place almost daily. LCD technology has become a bit like the PC technology at the moment. What's modern today is outdated tomorrow. so i think i still have to do a lot of research before i decide on one. For the moment it seems to me that the 4 biggest players are Panasonic, Philips(i love the ambilight) Sony and Samsung.

On the IPS-Alpha site, the 32' panel is listed as only 700:1 real contrast.
The AUO and S-PVA panels are listed 1200:1 of real contrast.
Do you know if this values are comparable? I read that the IPS-alpha panel is the best out there, closely followed by the SPVA. But the specs speak a different language, with the AUO/SPVA having almost two times the IPS contrast.
Also, how does the colors of the TX70 compares with the new wide colour gamut panels?
Thanks.

@rtjd

The dynamic contrast ratio is not exactly comparable over different manufacturer's panels.

With the Panny LXD70, we confirmed a 6500:1 in dynamic mode, but only about 650:1 in calibrated cinema mode.

The top SPVA models from Sony and Samsung are clearing the 900:1 mark quite easily, and this has manifested in better black levels in this panels.

Off hand, the IPS-alpha has the slight edge in viewing angles.

I like the LXD70 colours, because the primaries are very close to standards. SPVA tends to have wider but more inaacurate gamuts. For example, greens look a bit too blue for me.

 ;D WHICH should stick to fighting consumer rights and leave TV reviewing to us. Despite their `thorough' methodology, I am rarely enlightened by their reviews. We try to isolate subjectivity in our reviews but we cannot escape the fact that picture enjoyment is really a personal thing.

Good Morning:

SUPER review of the 32D3000
Essential to guys like me who has to otherwise base his buying decision on in-store HDTV snaps of the pyramids … etc.

IN STORE REVIEW
Hapilly, my retailer has placed a

* (2007) TC-32LDX700 … $1300 next to a
* (2007) KDL-32S3000 …..$1300 next to a
* (2006) KDL- V32XBR ….$1500 and I can walk next door to view a
* (2007) KDL-32XBR4 … $1800 ….. (This seems quite similar to the UK’s D3000)

However, I have spent too much of my time searching for that elusive “Best Buy. I intend to buy one of the above sets. Frankly to the “naked eye” they all look pretty much the same although I would have given the colour variations edge to the XBR’s.

Vincent Teoh’s  HDTVTEST – gets beyond my “Naked Eye”

SOUND:
I now appreciate that the Sony sound was not tops—perhaps the Panny has the edge here. You see, I have no intention of  adding speakers, stands, and amplifier to our  kitchen-family room.

SD Performance
When we move up to digital,  our favourite SD channels will be viewed at 480i or P.  I am pleased that the review is positive on SD.  Reviews elsewhere suggest that the Panny also performs well with SD.

MOVIE MODE
The D3000 seems to be very flexible re 120/100 and 24 frame interpolations, although such flexibility may carry a  $500 price tag.

GRAY SCALE

I am aware that this is a most critical design & set-up feature. I understand that the 2007 Sony’s have 10 bit processing and hence  great grays. I hope that buyers can follow Vincent Teoh’s lead and optimize this setting at home – without affecting their warranty!

ON CLOSE – THANKS for a GREAT REVIEW
It seems clear to me that the average person walking into a retail TV outlet cannot make an intelligent decision on “what TV” . Why? Neither buyer or seller have the time , energy, testing process, or demonstration/reporting skills to devote to the task.

.....

The TX32LXD700 only seems to differ in sound and connections. Anyone heard otherwise?

Anyway, review is up so flock over there when you're ready.

Great review, certainly made me put the LXD70 on top of my list.  I just managed to see a side by side comparison of the 70 & 700 at my local Panasonic shop, with both HD & SD (Freeview) sources and there was no difference in PQ - the salesman confirmed they were the same.  Soundwise and aesthetically the 700 is much better - sound is a lot less boxy on the 700, music is more full and interesting.  Not sure if it's worth the £150 extra but I did prefer the 700 a lot, and certainly looks nicer to my eyes.

BTW after searching the internet prices, high street shop prices are real scary - £850 for the 70, £999 for the 700 - I've seen both for more than £200 less on the interwebby, and the local RicherSounds sells the 70 for £599.

Now all I need is to directly compare the 70/700 with a Sony KDL32D3000 and I can make my mind up ... ;)

Hi realj42

If you can hang on for another week, we should have a review of the Panasonic TX32LXD700 available (Lyris is testing it on behalf of HDTVTest at the moment).

Warmest regards
Vincent

Thank you for this review as it has restored my faith in my hearing.  Panasonic are in denial about the noise emitted from the rear of thier new Viera series.
Having purchased the TX26LMD70 (the 50Hz model) from John Lewis I became aware of this humming noise while watching late at night with the sound off.  I exchanged for another model and the same fault occured again (after about 10hrs use).
John Lewis effectively blamed my digital aerial, it's connections and the amount of televisions we have in the house (4 on a system designed and setup for 6 - max. of 3 tv's in use at one time), my cables (all changed during the fault finding process) etc.  They did not answer when asked 'if it's the aerial, why does it still hum when playing a pre recorded DVD or actually disconnect the aerial'
Panasonic say this TV should be silent running and they deny (through John Lewis) any problems with said TV's.
John Lewis offered to send out an engineer but their attitude to me over the phone was so bad I returned the TV that day and have vowed never to return.
Shame for them as I had my eye on the new Sony KDL32D3000.
Panasonic have recently changed thier minds and jumped into the HD-DVD group, possibly signalling a Beta-max type end to the Blu-Ray.  Are they feeling the pinch? Their production is now in the Czech Republic, nice beer but have they got an crease to iron out in thier production line?
Sorry to blab but just a bit miffed.  Shall my faith be restored? Will up date you when i've found my new TV!
Many thanks and best wishes
Jill.

What I don't understand is why the TX32LXD700 doesn't get a recommendation whilst the TX32LXD70 does, when they have pretty much the same screens and the 700 has better sound ???

Can we confirm if your HTPC works over DVI/HDMI at the higher resolution of1920x1080? I know this screen should accept up to that resolution at 24frames and downscale it...

I have just purchased this TV and would really like to use it over HDMI with my HTPC.

Thanks,

Michael
