Samsung UE32D5000 review settings
« on: 14 December 2011, 04:50:18 PM »
The usual disclaimer: Copying calibrated settings from the internet will not net you a calibrated TV. Calibration is an exact process which involves measuring colours and brightness from the TV screen and making precise adjustments to offset errors. In comparison, copying settings used on another TV will only provide an approximate result. In the case of TVs which have very good preset picture modes, they may even make the image quality worse.

Although many settings operate in the same way from unit to unit, some of the most crucial  settings - the Greyscale (White Balance) adjustments - are largely specific to each TV and can only be successfully adjusted with a calibration device and software. The following settings reflect the adjustments that we made on our individual review sample.

Picture Mode: Movie
Backlight: 18
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 45
Sharpness: 0
Colour :51
Tint: 51/49

Advanced Settings:
All Off
Shadow Detail: +2
Gamma: -1
Colour Space: Auto
Flesh Tone: 0
LED Motion Plus: On

White Balance:
25 25 24 0 30 31

I liove the disclaimer David  ;) But i much prefer your settings LOL, I agree every set is definatately a little different but anyone who owns one with little knowledge of setup may find them very useful  :) , plus it gets owners to start fiddling from that 'out of box ' strange setup !

Just bought this tv. Tried using the settings as per the review and the picture looks awful(to mine and my wife's eyes). There seems to be a colour cast and the image darkens a lot with motion control activated. Whites in particular look really bad. The good news is that on Natural setting with the colour and brightness turned down a little the picture looks superb. Just goes to show I guess that everybodies eyes see things differently. On Natural mode was wondering why advanced settings can't be selected. Anybody know why as it seems to be just this setting you can't get them?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Some times seeing the correct setting for colour etc can come as quite a shock. Whites will no longer be pure white and will have a warm look to them.
But it is your tv mate so enjoy it the way you like it. :)

@ Tele1962. Thanks for the welcome. Maybe the settings I prefer are not the most realistic but they look so much better than the review settings. I actually reset the movie mode to default and then tried my own setting changes but still couldn't get a better picture than Natural mode! I'm not too bothered about motion control as some other reviews said it was better left off due to causing a 'soap opera' effect. I watched some football and didn't notice any obvious blurring on normal 50hz setting :)

Hello!
With those settings, but LED Motion Plus: Off, I think it's ok. With LED Motion Plus: On the picture it's too dark.  I would like to know others opinions. Thank you!

That's understandable, LED MP does decrease the brightness quite a bit on this model.

To be more precisely: I use all the settings from here but with LED MOTION PLUS: OFF. Aditionaly, the eco sensor is activated and set the backlight at 14. I also tried dinamic contrast at low and medium. At first view it was better, but later it seemed to me it's a little forced and without it it's more restful or natural, I don't know exactly. Anyway, I would apreciate if you'd tell me also your opinion about PICTURE OPTION. In PICTURE MODE: MOVIE the COLOUR TONE is set to WARM2, but so it's seems to me that white is a little dirty. What you think, STANDARD gives a more pure white or am I wrong? Thank you for all what you do here, I really apreciate.

Standard is pushed towards blue - you're probably used to looking at this so it will look normal at first.

Now I've had my tv for a month thought it was time for an update. I used to like Natural mode best but after making some changes to the settings I now leave the tv permanantly on Movie mode. I did initially find the picture a bit dark and the whites a bit dirty looking. I have set the backlight to 18 and the contrast to 90. Colour is now 53. I have kept the white balance settings on 25 instead of this sites recommendations. Shadow is plus 2 and gamma is minus 1. Tint is 50/50 and colour space auto. Motion control is left off as it darkens the picture too much for me. The one thing I have considerably cranked up is sharpness- now at 80! Compared to the other default tv modes I used to use the new set up looks great to me. I may still tweak things slightly but not by much I suspect. The high sharpness level may shock a few but it seems to work really well. The looks sharp but still natural. I watch the tv mostly at night in fairly dim light. Any feedback or thoughts from anyone?

The CONTRAST is too high and the image is too red. Have you tried the settings from David Mackenzie but with LED MOTION PLUS: OFF and, maybe, DINAMIC CONTRAST: LOW or MEDIUM?

That is the Danger of Dabbling in the SM, I hope David can assist you here, It maybe that you will need to find the correct Calibration pattern so your TV reckognizes it. After the HDMi self calibration did you get the 'Fail' or 'Success; indcation ?
