I don't think so, no. The UK 2011 Panasonics had numbers in the Professional modes, but that's reserved for the THX and ISF certified displays. The ST50 isn't either, but as we've shown, the accuracy is still excellent.

'ISF certified displays ?. Do you mean that THX and the Pro modes on the UK sets are 'Numbered' not sliders  ?

As of 2011, yes. The Pro modes at least, not sure about THX.

Resolution isn't everything, but yes, all of the Samsung Plasmas we tested, from the cheaper D550 and including the D8000 - have shown full resolution in 3D.

But, they have a slightly noisier 3D picture, I think with slightly less smooth colour transitions. All 3D TVs have poorer picture quality in 3D mode than in 2D.

Great review David,
a question: if you look at this video review of GT50:

http://bcove.me/2430owuj

at second 00:26 is possible to see a phenomenon very similar to 2011 green blobs, but here is yellow.
Is this similar to your observation about yellow tint mentioned in your article? what do you think about it? thanks :)

Nope, don't worry. That's just the shutter speed of the camera being out of sync with the display.

OK, so, 2D Settings.

Remember, these are not "calibrated settings" for your TV. They're the settings that resulted from calibrating our individual review unit. Copying these into your individual TV will not make it calibrated.

The usual disclaimer: Copying calibrated settings from the internet will not net you a calibrated TV. Calibration is an exact process which involves measuring colours and brightness from the TV screen and making precise adjustments to offset errors. In comparison, copying settings used on another TV will only provide an approximate result. In the case of TVs which have very good preset picture modes, they may even make the image quality worse.

Although many settings operate in the same way from unit to unit, some of the most crucial  settings - the Greyscale (White Balance) adjustments - are largely specific to each TV and can only be successfully adjusted with a calibration device and software. The following settings reflect the adjustments that we made on our individual review sample.

Great review of the 50" VT50 here by Mark Hodgkinson @ AVForums:

http://www.avforums.com/reviews/Panasonic-VT50-TX-P50VT50B-P55VT50B-P65VT50B-50-Inch-Flagship-3D-Plasma-TV-Review_282/Review.html

Good to see them begin to pick up on the 3D resolution issues... although it sounds like as with the ST50, they're dwarfed by the excellent 2D quality. Look forward to receiving one!

Hello David you seen the low light output on the Pro modes with the VT50....26ftl!  :o
I would say alright for evening/night use but thats bloody low.

The THX daytime mode hits 40ftl so I wonder why the pro mode is capped. Surely its best to leave the Pro settings free to hit 40ftl so one can be set for daytime the other for night with great calibration results.

Maybe next year.  ::)
