Which colorimeter
« on: 11 April 2012, 08:52:30 PM »

Hello,

I am waiting for my Panasonic ST50. In the meantime, I am looking for a colorimeter, hoping to get the best possible experience with my future plasma TV.

To be honest, I don't have much money left — anything above £200 will be hard to reach. It seems to exclude CalMAN, Chromapure and other high-end solutions — plus, this software does not work with Mac OS.

Spyder4TV HD, from Datacolor, seems to be an interesting way to go. Affordable, user friendly and Mac OS compatible. The question is, is it a good product? Will it deliver satisfying results — will there be a significant improvement over the default settings provided by Panasonic, which are pretty good according to reviews?

Thank you! :)

P.S. English not being my native language, please accept my apologies for any grammatical mistake.

Hello and welcome to HDTVTest. :)

A good place to start would be to contact Ricky J here:

You mention that English is not your native language, but you do not say where you are located.

I have profiled Spyder4s and unfortunately in their standard form their colour performance is not good. White is better though.

That along with through fact the i1D2 ceased production nearly a year ago means they are hard to find, and the ones you do will have been sitting around and possibly drifting.

Sorry about that! I live near Cannes, in France.

What a pity! I guess it was too good to be true. I feel lost. :(

The i1 display pro may be a good choice :
- HCFRv3 compatible
- about 200€

PS : HCFRv3 is not mac compatible yet but the bundled software "i1 Profile" is.

Hello mate does the I1D3 have to be the OEM version? If so do you know of any UK retailers?

Feel free to send me PMs if you need to, but please don't post the same question on the forum and in the PM. I don't have the time to respond twice, so please post in the main forum only - it'll usually get a faster response. Thanks!

Both OEM and Retail/Box SEEM to work with HCFRv3

The i1d3 release has been such a mess that I wouldn't trust anyone but the actual owners. Your best shot is amongst the ones in the avs hcfrv3 dedicated thread or Chromapure one. Pm Tom Hoffman if needed.
