HDMI sound pass through?
« on: 23 May 2007, 07:21:14 PM »
Hi All

I'm looking at the LE40M86BD and am wondering if the audio from a PS3 could go via the HDMI cable - into the TV and then out the 'optical out' and in to an AV Amp?

I talking Dolby Digital EX etc.

If not on this TV then are there any that will do this.

Thanks

Rich

Oooh, I was wondering this about the x3030 too! Is that how it works? Or is the audio out purely for any dolby digital sound in broadcasts?

I've sent an email to Samsung about this, so we will see if we get a reply.

Hi All

I go an answer from Samsung, have pasted it below

Dear Richard Evans

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.

The usual connection method we recommend is to connect the home cinema
system or amplifier to the TV itself.

The home cinema system/amplifier will take the sound from anything
showing on the TV e.g. PS3

This helps reducing the connections you need if you have more than one
unit connected to the TV.

I hope this has been of some assistance to you. If you do have any
further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards
Franziska

Just try to get an amplifier with audio sync control to be extra safe.

First, I like to say that your review on the Sharp LC-42X1DE is very good, so I bought one.

I have a slight problem, however, when I connected my Mac Mini using the DVI-HDMI cable to ext 5. The Mac Mini detected 1080i resolution but visible desktop does not utilise the whole screen. I have a 4 cm black strip on the left of the TV.  Does anyone know how I can get the desktop to fit the whole screen of the Sharp LC-42X1DE.

Thanks
