If (big if) they havent, what could we do to move on? These sets hit so many marks I guess the only advancement would be product life, and gimmicks added to it.

I'm sure people were saying the same about "Gas-Plasma displays" as they were known in the CRT days.

OLED will surely have its foibles. I'd be shocked if it was somehow perfect...

I can't wait to see them though. Like CRT to Flat Panel, it seems like a huge leap forward.

I can't wait either as i think it will open up a whole new world of possibilities for flat panels tech. :)

The ladies in red are distracting me from the televisions, maybe they are trying to hide something.

Someone in another forum says they are displaying special content on the TV's and if they were to use a Blu ray encoded at 23.976 then we would see judder.

Who, and what's their basis for that? Have they spent hands-on time with one?

A bit weird that they use passive 3D (half the res) on this TV. Samsung's alternative seems to be a lot better from a vid I've seen on a Norwegian site. The guy said it's the best 3D image he's ever seen, and he's seen a lot.

If they use Active 3D on flagship product, it would discredit their whole Cinema 3D marketing campaign. Which quite agressively says that LG Passive 3D is the best out there. =)
I guess they'll use Active 3D system only on PDP, if they still plan to continue producing that.

I've seen the LG OLED prototype not long ago at their local press event.
To be honest, I wasn't very amazed by the PQ, and when I gave it a closer look, I was little dissapointed.

First of all, the contrast under ambient lighting is not that different from average modern plasma TV with AR-filter. There were some "wows" from auditory, but I think those people haven't seen a decent plasma for too long. Looking at ST50 evening at home I thought the picture has even more "pop" than OLED. I'm sure that top-performers like ZT60 and F8500 will hold their ground in terms of contrast with little ambient lighting present.

Next, the colors are quite weird. They're not hellishly oversaturated like on phone AMOLED screens, but still quite off the Rec. 709 I guess. The TV screams for calibration, while some PDP and LCD out there actually look quite nice even in OOTB state.

And when I looked at the panel from close distance, the image was not very sharp. It turns out, the gaps between subpixels are just too large compared to modern PDPs, and more so LCDs. This leads to somewhat "loose" picture. There were some adressing electrodes visible in that gaps, and the panel substrate gave some violet reflections instead of black/grey. Looks like the prototype is still quite "raw" in terms of production.

To be honest, I think it's no wonder that they struggle to release it to the mass market. It clearly reminded me of earlier generations of LCD and PDP, which were nowhere near the modern examples.

We asked LG how the OLED makes a picture and are waiting for a response. Specifically, is it like LED LCD, using a method called sample and hold, or more plasma’s method, called pulse-width modulation.
It is sample and hold. They're more like LCD than they are plasma in that regard.

Wow those black levels. :o But still a few questions, in particular those bands and the stuck/dead pixels?
