Bang & Olufsen TVs
« on: 05 July 2012, 03:10:03 PM »

I've been at Bang & Olufsen's event today. Their new BeoPlay V1 LCD TV is quite impressive: it's contrasty and it uses only 1 LED-element at the top of the screen (!) while maintaining great blacks and uniformity. :o It uses S-PVA type OEM LCD panel made by Samsung, but it's still totally different product, believe it or not.

There was also their 85" Plasma TV, which is great, too. It uses Panasonic Professional 85" panel, but looks totally like Kuro in terms of contrast and colour reproduction. "Pirates of the Caribbean" trailer reminded me of Pioneer's PQ very much. Still, Bang & Olufsen's driving method have almost non-visible dithering noise and false contouring is practically absent. I must say, this stuff is impressive even for a Premium price. By the way, they were running an OPPO player as a source for 85".

I was pretty skeptical about their products, but now I changed my mind. I was not impressed by flat-panel Loewe screens, I wasn't impressed with Bose TV either, but this B&O is definitely an interesting product.

It depends on unique TV configuration, but new Beoplay V1 LCD models are in this range: 2400-3000 for 32" verion and 3000-3600 for 40". It's very pricey, of course, but their other lineups are much more expensive. :P
For example, 85" flagship plasma with self-calibration feature is around 60000 in Russia. :o
