I think any event that gets people in to see calibrated displays is a good idea, provided the information being offered is correct.

If the science is sound, that's the main thing. And remember that a lot of people coming might never have seen a calibrated HDTV before. Naturally at a store that deals mainly with one brand you'll lose the wide-ranging comparisons Robert's shootout offers though.

Totaly agree David, i just don't want anyone being lulled into thinking this is some kind of independant event along the lines of the Shootout in the US.

The shootout is completely unbiased and manufacturer reps are there to answer questions and take the attending audience's comments and usually some negative comments or complaints. Most of the reps on-hand make use of this info by relaying it to their respective companies in hopes of correcting said problems. There are usually a few top calibrators present Kevin Miller (one of the founders of ISF) D-Nice (leading Pioneer calibration specialist) Ed Johnson and a few more Calibrators. The Shootout is provided by Robert Zohn owner of Valueelectronic's in Scarsdale NY a former broadcast tech.
Previous Shootouts can be found onYoutube, if anyone is interested. I look forward to this event every year because of it's comprehensive presentation. It is also on a live internet broadcast.

Thanks Rizzo,  great info and back round and i can't wait for this years event. As you probably read there is a dealer in the UK having a sort of demo day which some were confusing with a full scale independent Shootout like in the US. :)

Robert's (ValueElectronic's in New York) has gained quite a bit of recognition and kudos in the American HD field. It's well received event and applauded by industry individuals and periodicals in the US. Too bad there is no one in the UK who could actually put together such an event, rather than exploit it as an advertising ploy. Robert goes through a lot of expense (unsupported by manufacturers donations so it can be completely unbiased) to do this every year. Robert is a true gentleman, who will devote as much of his time to the subject, only in the interest of promoting the hobby and education of those interested. His business is a Family operation and all who are involved are sincere and devoted as he is. I hope you guys check it out on the internet podcast the day of the event in  May, 6pm, Friday, May 10th and 6pm, Saturday, May 11th. it's a great production and super informative for those interested in HD reproduction. I'm glad your David M. will also be on-hand to add his expertise and responses to posted inquiries.
So please accept my invite to view it I will update with further info as it becomes available, or perhaps Robert himself will post some info.

Thought I'd stop by to give my EU friends an update on our 2013 Flat Panel HDTV Shootout Evaluation event.

First and foremost we're delighted to have David Mackenzie join us again this year on our panel of experts!

All is well on our end of the world and we're putting the finishing touches on our plans for the Shootout event.  This year we're hosting the Shootout in our new and much larger showroom.   Our new store is centrally located in the downtown village of Scarsdale, NY.  The store is beautiful, but we're just starting the process of disassembling all of the displays to make room for the 50+ seats.

Other than clearing out the store to make room for the seats we're working on taking down all of the displays on the designated Shootout wall so we can assemble the 2013 displays on one easy to see location.

Many of the new panels have arrived and some have been properly aged to stabilize them.  We're evaluating ten panels and we're likely to select six or seven as finalists to compete in the Shootout.  Kevin Miller has already calibrated Samsung's F8500 and Ed Johnson calibrated Samsung's F8000.  Both look stunning.

I'm hoping some of our EU friends can attend in person and to all who can not make the trip I encourage your participation in our live HD webcast that will be moderated by our a/v staff techs.  A selection of questions and comments will be read out-laud for out panel of experts to answer.

Every New Year I get excited to put on the Shootout and this year will be our very best as we are well planed to make this a fun, educational and accurate 2013 display evaluation.   All of the products are excellent performers.

Cheers,

-Robert
Advanced a/v dealer

Robert is trying to get one of their top-end sets, we 'LCD/LED viewer's' would like to see the comparison's I know LED would suffer in viewing angles. But they usually hold their own in PQ & Color.

It might be challenging, since LG postponed the US release again. It would be a miracle if it shows up on the Shootout. Very interested to see the results in comparison to other competitors.
