Test if the TV sets have DVB-T2 | DVB-S2X | DVB-C2 !

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-T2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-S2X
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-C#DVB-C2

PLEASE !

Example : In my country they will implement the second generation when they lunch the digital transmission. (because they were late, so the EU forced them to do it).

First generation will simply not work.

Won't this information be stated in the manual ??? If not, couldn't one simply send an e-mail to the manufacturer and ask before buying?

Of course it is stated but a TV should get slightly extra points in the reviews on hdtvtest for having the latest generation of tuners.

Just like they get extra points for having full connectivity or latest USB, HDMI connections !

Basically all TVs sold in 2013 (and before) and most of 2014 in my country will be useless in 2015 without an external box in 2015. (that is 100% more expensive than first generation boxes) because the second generation is not compatible at all with the first !

Please read the wiki links.

As a UK site (which has expanding US coverage), it's not really practical or even possible for us to test for this - outside of buying an expensive signal generator. Asking the manufacturer would be a better use of resources all round :)

It's not difficult to view a local manufacturer's site and find an exact specification for in-built TV tuners.
Luckily, they rarely make mistakes in this information. I've been monitoring DVB-T2 transition in Russia for a few years, so I'm very familiar with the problem.

What about DVB-C2 :  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-C
The first generation is very old from 1994 and they want to use a newer one.

Any TV in 2014 used DVB-C2 ?

Maybe in 2015 when i must buy a new TV they will appear ?

With the rate they adopt new standards in the netherlands, i think this will be a problem in about 2 million years.

DVB-S2X
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-S2X

Quote
DVB-S2X is a digital satellite television broadcast standard. It has been standardised by DVB Project in March 2014 as an optional extension of DVB-S2 standard. It will also become an ETSI standard. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETSI)

Compared to DVB-S2, efficiency gains up to 51% can be achieved with DVB-S2X.

Amongst improvements are:

    Higher Modulation Schemes (64/128/256APSK)
    Smaller Roll-off factors
Improved filtering making it possible to have smaller carrier spacing

DVB-C2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-C#DVB-C2 (see table here)

Quote
On February 18, 2008 it was announced that a new standard DVB-C2 would be developed during 2008, and a "Call for Technologies" was issued. Proposals including simulation programs and information on patent rights could be submitted until June 16, 2008.

"The results of the DVB-C2 Study Mission already provided clear indications that technologies are available allowing the performance of the second generation DVB cable transmission system to get so close to the theoretical Shannon Limit that any further improvements in the future would most likely not be able to justify the introduction of a disruptive third generation of cable transmission system." (DVB-C2 CfT)

By using state of the art coding and modulation techniques, DVB-C2 should offer greater than 30% higher spectrum efficiency under the same conditions, and the gains in downstream channel capacity will be greater than 60% for optimized HFC networks.

The final DVB-C2 specification was approved by the DVB Steering Board in April 2009.

DVB-C2 allows bitrates up to 83.1 Mbit/s on an 8 MHz channel bandwidth when using 4096-QAM modulation; future extensions will allow up to 97 Mbit/s and 110.8 Mbit/s per channel using 16384-QAM and 65536-AQAM modulation
